I'm Aston Bright, publisher of the Buzz (Plantation Firefighter 10 yrs & resident for 14 yrs). I started this newsletter to promote the good news & events happening around town. And to enhance the city’s community spirit, promote togetherness and shine a light 🔦 on the AMAZING people who live here and the businesses in our community.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Joseph Cuccia of our City of Plantation Police Department for receiving the Chief’s Award for his actions as a superb leader in the Support Services Division of the Department!

🚔 Plantation Police Citizens Academy Update This week Plantation PD took their Citizens in their academy to the firing range and ran them through some real world scenarios. Take a peek here.

👟 Pickleball Tip of the Week with Coach Jelani Limiting dead dinks is something to work on over time. More advanced players will attack anything high without spin especially dinks which are at the kitchen line. Curious About Pickleball? The Plantation Buzz is hosting their 1st free Pickleball clinic this Sun with Coach Jelani! 🥁 SPHS Band 4th of July Parade! The South Plantation High School Marching Band has been selected to represent our state in the prestigious National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., this July 4th! They’re fundraising so they can go. Help them get there with a donation or stop by their car wash Saturday May 5, 10a-5p at Taco Bell Tower Shops in Davie.

🥎 Where in the World is Dr. Bob! He just completed announcing his last South Plantation High softball game of the regular season. SPHS beat Monarch High, 7 to 4. They defeated Northeast 7-0 to close out the season with a record of 10-11. District playoffs begin next Tuesday at Cooper city high school.

Dr. Bob will be appearing at the grand opening of the new Mission Barbecue in Lake Mary Florida on Tuesday, May 6. If you’re up North in Central Florida stop by and say hello to the Mission BBQ folks as they open another amazing BBQ joint.

Plantation Firefighters received recognition at the City Council meeting last night for their service awards. Members had from 5 to 15 years of service. And Lt. Aston Bright was recognized for being selected as the 2024 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year for Florida by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

🦸‍♂️ Aden Perry Scholarship Fund Update 

ANY STUDENT, graduating or already in college, technical school or other continuing education school is eligible to apply. THIS school year alone: Awarded over 20 monetary scholarships to graduating seniors. Awarded 90+ Scholarships for SAT prep tutoring, study books and paid testing fees

This foundation honors Aden Perry, a true hero, who died trying to save the life of someone who was drowning in a canal off Flamingo Rd.

The Aden Perry Good Samaritan and Scholarship Fund awarded a college Scholarship to Reo Gay. He was one of their amazing scholarship applicants and he is a current college student!

🚨 News Update! A few weeks ago, we featured a story about a teen who’s bike was stolen near Fig Tree Park. He was pushed off his bike and it was taken from him. Well, the bike has been recovered! And those responsible have been brought to justice! 💪

Great job by the family for staying vigilant, & the Plantation Police Dept for a great job tracking down the wretched persons who stole this child’s bike. We are so thrilled it has been recovered. Message from the mother of the teen, “Thank you officer Correa and to the whole Plantation Police Dept. We appreciate your help and hard work!! 🙏”
