I'm Aston Bright, publisher of the Buzz (Plantation Firefighter 10 yrs & resident for 15 yrs). I started this newsletter to promote the good news & events happening around town. I also want to enhance the city’s community spirit, promote togetherness and shine a light 🔦 on the AMAZING people who live here and the businesses in our community.

Plantation Firefighter Edward Lohrer was promoted to Sergeant Major last year in the United States Army. We’re thrilled to announce that he has now completed his training and graduated from the US Army Sergeant Majors Academy at Fort Bliss. His daughter Lily made the trip out there to attend her dad’s ceremony. We’re so glad you were able to attend Lily! E-9 Sgt. Maj. is the highest enlisted rank in the Army. So this is really an incredible and very difficult achievement to reach. The Plantation Buzz team could not be more proud of Firefighter Lohrer. Congratulations Sergeant Major!

🏊 Water Safety Month Water Safety Event is this Sat from 10-2 at the Central Park Pool. Don’t forget to Watch the Water, Watch the Kids. Summer is upon us, so we are in pool season. Don’t forget that the #1 cause of death of children under 10 in Florida is drowning. Children from 1-4 are at significant risk. Please be aware of this danger. Teach your kids how to swim. 🍪 Where in the World is Dr. Bob! This week Bob was at the Honor Flight Homecoming Celebration at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport Spirit Terminal to welcome the Veterans home! Then he was at the Cappie Awards at the Broward Center to do some announcing and cheering on South Plantation High School. Make sure you follow Bob on his socials and reach out and say hello.

👨‍💼 Mayor’s Minute Update Week of 5/19: This week's special planning and zoning meeting will address a comp plan and parking requirements. City Council met last night, featuring an art tapestry display. Saturday is Water Safety Day, a highly anticipated event for families. Memorial Day events will occur at Plantation Walk all weekend.

RA Sushi Plantation Walk provided lunch for Plantation Fire station #4 (located across from Target). They wanted to say thank you to the first responders in their neighborhood.

Only 2 Days Away! The Aden Perry Foundation will be there with Life Rings and other water safety education materials. Plantation aquatic complex Central Park. 10a-2p.

Aden Spencer Perry died attempting to save a man from drowning off Flamingo Rd on April 19, 2022. While driving at night, an 18-year-old man was in an accident in which his car struck a tree, was launched airborne, and traveled into a pond, where it came to rest upright about 40 feet from the bank in water about 25 feet deep.

Aden Perry, a true hero died while trying to save his life. Aden’s Mum, Sarah, has dedicated her life to promoting water safety with Life Rings and other educational material.
