🌈 A Fresh Look for the Broward Mall Eyesore

If you’ve driven by the old Broward Mall construction site lately, you’ve probably noticed something new: a colorful mesh wrap now covering the long-abandoned structure.

The City of Plantation posted that the vibrant artwork, created by Hollywood-based artist Jen Little and produced by ABC Imaging, started going up earlier this week. It’s a big improvement for an area that’s been sitting unfinished since 2019, when plans for The Social were put on hold.

Construction originally began under Seritage SRC Finance LLC (a Sears spinoff), but work stopped after COVID hit. Attempts to push the company to clean things up went nowhere, and even city fines were blocked by a governor’s order.

Fast forward to today: the site has a new owner — Midtown Group, which purchased the 17-acre property late last year for about $28 million. They’re preparing a new mixed-use development proposal, but approvals and permits could take up to two years.

In the meantime, Midtown wanted to show good faith and bring some life back to the corner. They’re footing the $40,000 bill for the new art wrap. A temporary but welcome facelift from a group that’s already earned a good reputation with projects in Miami.

Nice to see the city working with the developer to show some progress on this location that has been something we all want to see finished. Great job to the Mayor and all involved in moving the needle forward. 👏

🚒🍖 The Plantation Fire Dept’s 66th Annual Firefighter BBQ was on Sunday. The fundraiser was a massive success. They wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out to support them. Plantation is such a great community. The support was appreciated. Highlight reel.
