Fun fact: The City of Plantation, named after the Everglades Plantation Company, began as an agricultural area with crops like beans and sugarcane. Since its founding on April 23, 1953, with a population of 300, it has grown into a vibrant suburban city with a population of 96,548 in 2025, known for its events, music, and great food, while proudly remembering its agricultural roots.

🎓 University of Plantation This program educates Plantation residents about the city by connecting them with elected officials and staff. It includes seven monthly classes from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Outreach Center in Broward Mall. Session 2 is tonight (2/20) & focuses on safety, featuring the Fire and Utilities departments, with a special appearance by the Police Dept.

🧑🏽‍🌾 Farmers Market Plantation hosts a Farmers Market at Volunteer Park, every Sat, featuring fresh, certified Organic and non-Organic produce, locally produced honey, homemade hummus, plants and orchids, fresh cut flowers, breads and Danishes, olive oils, cheeses, dips, spreads and more. Sat 2/23, 9 am - 2pm.

🚙 Car Show “Rides & Coffee” at the Detail Superstore. Stop by to see David Berzner and his crew at this great car meet up. Food trucks. Davie Police Dept will be on scene with a tent as well. Sorry, but NO revving, and NO burnouts. Bring the family to see some cool rides and meet awesome people. Sun 2/23, 8am - 11am. 8622 W SR 84, Davie (Pine Island/SR 84).

Bounce Houses World’s biggest bounce park is at the Broward Mall. FunBox Bounce House is fun for the kids. They’re at 8000 W Broward Blvd (West parking lot, across from Target) Buy tix and more details. 

⚽️ American Heritage Girls Soccer team is playing for a State Championship Fri at the Class 4A FHSAA Finals in Auburndale, FL. Good luck to Plantation residents Alivia LaBarbera, Victoria Burns, Eliana Croke, Natalia Dorn, Keira Boone, and the team! If they win it will be a 3 peat! And they will also be the National Champions!

Cuban Food you won’t soon forget! Try Cedeños in the Broward Mall Food Court. They have the best Lechón Asado I’ve ever tasted! And don’t forget about the Cuban Coffee!

🌮 Food Trucks Every Wed at Volunteer Park there are 12 of the best food trucks, a DJ playing music, games & activities for the kids, and an artisan vendor. This is a great event for the family. Come out on 2/26 from 5 pm - 9 pm and get some great eats.

🍇 SOBE Food & Wine starts today. It is one of the most unique food events in Florida. Food, music, and fun on the beach sand in South Beach!

🧑🏻‍🚒 Plantation Firefighter retires after 45 years of service! Lt. Charles “Chuck” Simpkiss (Plantation resident since 1976) has retired from service after 4 and a half decades. He was a dedicated member of Station 3, “The Honey Badgers.” We thank Chuck for his loyal and dedicated service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Plantation. His family has a long legacy serving in the Plantation Fire Dept as well. Thank you Chucky!

🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️ Plantation Fire Dept Rescue Paramedic Stephanie Trappberger ran in the Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge. This consisted of 4 races over 4 days totaling 48.6 miles! Pretty awesome. Paramedic Trappberger serves on A Shift with Rescue 76. She’s been in service with Plantation since 2023. Follow Stephanie on IG.

💧 Plantation’s Utility Department uses state of the art technology to keep our drinking water safe. Watch this video. 

👮🏽 Citizens Police Academy 2025 The Plantation Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is a 9-week curriculum which are geared toward educating the community about police operations in the city of Plantation. It is a collaborative effort between local residents, business owners and police officers that will help identify problems, generate community-oriented solutions and build the kind of trust critical to creating a safe and pleasant community. The classes are starting on March 4th. The current class is full. But they will be taking applications for their next class in August. 🏢 City Council Meetings are generally held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. Next meeting is Wed 2/26 at 6 pm, City Hall. Contact the City Clerk’s office for more details 954-797-2237.

🚒 The Plantation Fire Department is currently looking for Volunteer Firefighters to join. Their next Fire Academy class is in the Fall. It is free to join. All training and uniforms will be provided. 🚨Traffic Speed Cameras have been installed on Peters Road in the school zone between Pine Island Rd and SW 80th Terr (Sheldon J Harr Pkwy). Slow down in the school zone or the cameras will zap you and mail you a speeding ticket.
