Fun fact: In 1957, 21 civic minded residents of the City of Plantation joined together to establish an elite firefighting force. Frank Veltri and Frederick Peters (the founder of Plantation) were among them. It’s purpose was to harness their personal courage, so they could be ever vigilant guardians of life and property in Plantation. They succeeded. In 1996, the Fire Dept started a Rescue division. And today 68 years later, our Fire Department is thriving! They run over 12,000 calls a year serving our residents, businesses, and visitors of our great city.

The Plantation Fire Dept is currently recruiting Volunteer Firefighters and members for our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). I’ve been a Plantation Firefighter since 2014 and joining the dept is the best decision I’ve ever made. It’s very rewarding to serve our community and give back. Check out some BTS from a video shoot they did. If you’re interested, reply to this email and I’ll speak to you about my experience as a Volunteer Plantation Firefighter. You can do it too! Or call Fire Administration 954-797-2150 or click here to apply.

📣 Special Shout Out Sending love and positive energy to subscribers Alex & Adriana Castillo! They have lived in Plantation for many years and are special jewels in our community. Thank you so much for supporting the Plantation Buzz as avid readers.

X Calling all Gen X’ers! The Gen X Resource Guide by Slim Sherri is really funny & entertaining. We were told by our parents we can’t drink coffee as kids. “It’ll stunt your growth! 🙄” And now I walk into Ella’s Cafe or Starbucks on Pine Island and Broward and see 7 yr olds sipping lattes like it’s nothing. We never got to enjoy coffee as kids. Life isn’t fair I guess. Meanwhile, 19% of Zoomers (Gen Z) are showing up to job interviews with a parent. (No not kidding). So, at least we are doing better than them. If you’re Gen X, you are definitely special and you need to watch this.

🛍️ Broward Mall Night Market. You really should check out their Night Market every Tues night 5p-9p on the east side by the fountain. See you there 3/25.

👟 Pickleball Tip of the Week Coach Jelani (Plantation Firefighter & resident since 2016) - If not sure what paddle to buy next, I recommend testing out various ones before committing. Ask a friend between games if you can try out paddle to see if paddle type goes well with your style of play. It may take many tries to find perfect fit! Coach Jelani is teaching a free pickleball clinic to our readers. Reply back to this email with, “Interested in Pickleball” to sign up. 👍
